Annot Rhul - "Lost in the Woods "
(Sulatron Records ST0703)

Annot Rhül is not a band in the traditional sense of the word, but a pseudonym for Sigurd Lühr Tonna , the man behind the music and arrangements. He plays the guitar, keys and effects, sometimes bass as well as other peculiar instruments. Sigurd is often joined in the studio by his creative friends on additional instruments. Lost in the Woods was made with the help from three members of Seid ; Burt Rocket, Organ Morgan and Jürgen Kosmos , as well as; Haakon Marius Pettersen (Fuckface , Moving Oos , New Violators), Lene Stakset (Zetored , Geisha, Radio Saglars), Sven Arne Skarvik (Love Revolt, Ningun Extremo , Amberville), Stian Gjelvold (Nopia), Halvor William Sanden (Fritt Fall), and Ståle Norum (Tremolo Wankers , Thrush, Funny Farm). ( taken from Annot Rhül's biography)

Lost in the Woods is a compilation of the previously unreleased Lost in the Woods EP (tracks 1-6) and Who Needs Planes or Time Machines, When There's Music and Daydreams (tracks 7-17).

Annot Rhüls ' music tends to lean on the mellow Pink Floyd- sound, where beautifully haunting   themes are led by acoustic/electric guitar and keyboards. Every once in a while, the band starts to explore more aggressive territory (faster tempos, time-signatures, etc), and the guitarist bursts into passionate soloing. While the opening title track, “Ghost children” and the sublime Joni Mitchell -cover “Roses blue” is hypnotic and flowing, a more intense, percussive, Seid -ian feel is represented by the tracks “The dark lord”, “Knife valley” and “Planes or time machines”. But for me it is “Carlos' brothers” that steals the show, Its intricate arrangement here (blending layers of wailing guitars, sitar, mellow synths , strings and piano) simply swells with emotion. “Evergreen forest” is ethereal, haunting, keyboard/ mellotron -drenched piece that slowly sucks the listener in with a progressively shifting theme. The album closes with a tequila sunrise in my hand while listening to “Stung by a cactus”.

Fans of Pink Floyd, Sula Bassana , Seid , Aphrodites Child, Viima and our own Hypnos 69 will love this album. Lost In The Woods has everything a great album should have and it never sacrifices emotion, passion and all around great song writing!
